02/05/08 - Conservatives make major gains in the local elections

Dudley South Conservatives are celebrating after winning Kingswinford North & Wall Heath from the Liberal Democrats, where Cllr Denise Harley was elected with a big majority, along with Brockmoor & Pensnett, where Cllr Sue Greenaway was elected, and Netherton, Woodside & St. Andrews, where Cllr John Davies was elected, both taken from Labour. Cllr Davies, former Labour Mayor of Dudley, returns to the Council chamber for the first time since 1991 whilst Cllr David Blood was successfully re-elected in Kingswinford South along with Cllr Geoffrey Southall in Wordsley.

Chris Kelly, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Dudley South, said: "These results prove that the Conservative Party is truly back in business in Dudley South. We are now looking ahead to the general election with great confidence whenever Gordon Brown has the bottle to call it."
