Laughable Kinnock
Sir: The Spectator reports that Neil Kinnock ('Kinnock: the pound is bloody doomed', 25 November) wanted an enabling referendum on UK entry soon after the 1997 election but failed to win over the Prime Minister. Mr Kinnock's view that Tony Blair missed his chance to hold such a referendum while his huge parliamentary mandate was still fresh is almost laughable. The last person the Prime Minister needs to take lessons from is the man who lost two general elections over nine long years as leader of the Labour party.
