Sir, - The announcement of Stuart Wheeler's pounds 5 million donation is a very real boost to William Hague's Conservative Party.
This donation will set the ball rolling. Large donations such as those from Mr. Wheeler and Paul Sykes will give other wealthy individuals who have been thinking about it the confidence to go ahead and donate large sums of money to the Tories. With an issue as important as retaining our own currency after the election at stake, I feel sure many other businessmen will now follow Mr Wheeler's example.
