Sir, - The continuing emergence of new information relating to the 'passports for favours' affair has revealed that William Hague was absolutely right to press the prime minister in the House of Commons over Peter Mandelson's resignation from the Cabinet.
The impression given is that Mr Mandelson was pushed in an attempt to put a lid on a wider abuse of ministerial powers possibly involving two other Government ministers.
And how hypocritical of Charles Kennedy to attack Mr Hague's line of questioning when it was one of his own Liberal Democrat MPs - Norman Baker - who secured the downfall of Mr Mandelson.
Clearly the squabbling now unleashed within the centre left is wider than just the Labour Party - it has now encompassed the Lib Dems as well.
