Sir, - I would not wish to be seen to praise the Chancellor's economic strategy but who does the European Commission think it is to criticise Gordon Brown's spending plans? The Commission is, after all, made up of unelected, often failed, national politicians supported by a huge team of blindly Euro-phile bureaucrats - all paid for by us, the national tax-payers of Europe.
The prospect of euro-zone finance ministers being able to club together against Britain to impose a fine following a Commission rebuke should we ever vote to scrap the pound will certainly not endear the single currency to the British electorate.
