When will Zimbabwe be free of Mugabe?
Re: Dictator on the doorstep
Date: 30 July 2003
Sir - Kate Hoey's account of the breakdown of Zimbabwe from "bread-basket" to "basket case" is both worrying and moving. Ms Hoey is absolutely right to argue that Tony Blair should not "be fooled by Mbeki", but it is highly unlikely that her plea will be listened to.
Earlier this month, Tony Blair and Peter Mandelson welcomed Thabo Mbeki to London as a key guest at the Left-of-centre conference on progressive governance, which had been organised by Mr Mandelson.
What hope is there of removing Mugabe's murderous regime when the Prime Minister is more interested in talking to Mr Mbeki about the Third Way and social democracy than about the dictator on his doorstep?
